Nassau Bar Association to Honor Two From Manhasset
Largest social gathering for Long Island's legal community planned in August.
Meryl and Stephen J. Gassman of Manhasset will be honored at the Nassau County Bar Association's annual WE CARE Fund Stephen W. Schlissel Golf and Tennis Classic Aug. 5 at Tam O’Shanter Golf Club in Brookville and The Mill River Club in Oyster Bay.
Stephen Gassman is the senior partner in the matrimonial law firm of Gassman Baiamonte Betts, PC, in Garden City. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, New York Chapter, where he has served as vice president, Counsel and a member of the Board of Managers. He is a past president of the Nassau County Bar Association, a former chair of the Family Law Section of the New York State Bar Association and of the NCBA's Matrimonial and Family Law Committee.
Gassman was the recipient of the NCBA's Distinguished Past President Award in 2002, the Nassau BOCES Education Partner Award in 2008 and the annual award in 2010 from About Face, a charity devoted to improving the lives of women and children. He has delivered hundreds of lectures on all phases of matrimonial law before bar groups in New York State and nationally. He is one of less than 100 matrimonial lawyers in the country originally designated as a Diplomate of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, and has been listed in Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers in America every year such designations were made.

In 1988, while serving as President of the NCBA, Gassman founded the WE CARE Fund and has been a devoted supporter and benefactor of the Fund to the present time.

Meryl Gassman has been a teacher and her interests have always been with children and child-dedicated charities. She has served as a volunteer for the Family Service League, and has been a board member of Variety, the Children's Charity of New York, for more than 20 years. She has been actively involved in WE CARE events since its inception in 1988 and her loyalty and pride in WE CARE has been unwavering. She has played in many WE CARE golf outings and has won the tournament on two occasions. She is presently writing two books, one about women and golf.
Because of the anticipated event turnout, play will be on two courses. Registration and brunch begins at 9:30 a.m. at The Mill River Club in Oyster Bay and 10:15 a.m. at Tam O’Shanter Golf Club in Brookville. Golf shotgun start is at 11:30 a.m. for Mill River and 12:15 p.m. for Tam O’Shanter. Tennis begins at 11:30 a.m. at Tam O’Shanter. The cocktail party (5:30 p.m.) and dinner (6:30 p.m.) will be at Tam O’Shanter.
