📰 News we're reading

• Focus on the Great Neck peninsula: A tale of two+ cities (longislandpress.com) — Great Neck residents get a rich look at how Iranian Jewish families, synagogues, and businesses helped reshape the peninsula's identity over the past few decades. The piece traces pre-1979 Ashkenazi roots, post-revolution Persian migration, and the distinct Mashadi community, explaining why Great Neck became a major global center of Iranian Jewish life and what that means for the town's future.

• Remains found by high school track team in Manhasset may be missing Great Neck grandmother (greaterlongisland.com) — Authorities believe skeletal remains found by student runners in Manhasset's Plandome Pond Park may belong to a 79-year-old Great Neck grandmother who disappeared from her Oakley Place home last December. Police say the death does not appear criminal, and her family is awaiting DNA confirmation after recognizing clothing, potentially bringing long-awaited closure to Great Neck neighbors who joined the extensive search.
