Melville Rabbi First Woman to Lead Rabbinical Board
Susie Moskowitz of Temple Beth Torah makes history in Long Island Jewish community.

A local rabbi is making history as the first woman elected president to The Long Island Board of Rabbis.
Rabbi Susie Moskowitz of , in Melville, is being installed as president on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. at the temple.
Moskowitz has led services at Temple Beth Torah for the past 16 years. Prior to coming to the local temple, she served at the Reconstructionist Synagogue of the North Shore and Temple Beth El of Great Neck. She was ordained at the Hebrew Union College- Jewish Institute of Religion in 1991 and graduated from Duke University in 1986.

Some of her accomplishments over the years include creating a family school and teaching a Jewish Yoga class. She is currently working on partnering children with Special Needs with teenagers for weekly visits.
“My goal is that the Long Island Board of Rabbis can expand its programming and services to meet the needs of all of the Rabbis on Long Island, those serving in congregations and those serving the various needs of the community in other capacities," Moskowitz said. "This will enable us to strengthen the Jewish community throughout the Island."

According to the organization, The Long Island Board of Rabbis is a cross denominational rabbinical organization of conservative, orthodox, reform, and reconstructionist rabbis on Long Island to serve the needs of all Long Island Rabbis and their communities.
