House Exhibition
Deep Altars, an evocative meditation on ritual, is a solo show by OTERO FUENTES, curated by Alitza Cardona, opening with a soft launch on Governors Island, June 20, 2026 and a full display with reception on June 27th. This body of sculpture ponders how cultural beliefs serve as a counter for hope in the face of today’s transactional behaviors.
The exhibition operates as a constellation of spatial prayers. In each work, you'll see the intention behind structure, curvature, and tension. The visible structure becomes a point of orientation to invisible forces: hope, gravity, alignment, intention, and presence.
With Deep Altars, the viewer's position is inverted, drawing him or her into the offering itself. In this context, the depths of meaning held in the gesture of encounter with the other become the very site where the divine is encountered.
Working primarily with steel and concrete, OTERO FUENTES examines how arcs, angles, and spatial rhythms shape the human experience and the forms that orchestrate circumstances. Trained as an architect, he approaches sculpture as a relational field where each work functions as both object and threshold, inviting viewers to move, recalibrate, and reconsider their position and meaning in space.

Several sculptures will be presented in the garden and adjoining field next to the venue Nolan Park, Building 10B. Artists include Michael V. Poast, Dianne Smith and Motohiro Takeda.

The day features a special Ode to the Black Fiddler performance by jazz violinist and vocalist Charisa the Violin Diva with StringsNation. Ode to the Black Fiddler is an IAH Studio initiative that highlights the artistry and cultural contributions of string musicians of color through live performance and community-centered programming.
Charisa Rouse is an in-demand violinist, vocalist, and composer who has collaborated with artists including Wynton Marsalis, Savion Glover, Quincy Jones, Kim Burrell, Common, Diana Krall, Musiq Soulchild, and William McDowell, among others. For this set, she is joined by her ensemble StringsNation, presenting a dynamic mix of soul, jazz, hip-hop, R&amp;B, and more.

Ottawa, Canada. Sarah Houston,The IndUS Canada Foundation (ICF) has called for the resignation of Acting Akaal Takhat Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj alleging that recent remarks and actions have led to confusion regarding Sikh religious principles and terminology.
The issue was discussed during a virtual meeting from Ottawa (Canada), convened by ICF which was attended by representatives of 28 Sikh temples and 17 Indian NRI associations from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and other countries.
According to ICF President Vikram Bajwa the term &ldquo;Guru Dokhi&rdquo; holds profound religious significance in Sikhism and has traditionally been associated with acts of disrespect or opposition to the teachings and sanctity of Guru Granth Sahib. He said that many members of the Sikh diaspora believe that extending such terminology to matters involving photographs or contemporary political disputes risks diluting established Sikh religious principles and the spirit of Sikh maryada.&nbsp; He further stated that Sikh institutions must remain committed to the teachings and principles enshrined in Guru Granth Sahib and should avoid &lsquo;political instigated&rsquo; actions that may create confusion among the Sikh community.NRI&rsquo;s from New York , Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle , San Francisco, Washington DC.,Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, participated in the zoom meeting , with unanimous decision, asking Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj to resign with immediate effect for distorting the Hukamnama, issued to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann., who acknowledges that he is framed in a frivolous political issue , in the run up to Punjab Elections, said Awtar Dhillon from New York.
