Driver Was On Drugs During Fatal Harlem Crash, Prosecutors Allege
The Manhattan District Attorney said the driver had PCP when he was apprehended.
HARLEM, NY — A Bronx man has been indicted on homicide and drug charges after a car crash killed one person and hospitalized another in Harlem this March, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said Tuesday.
Bragg alleges 49-year-old Kevin Crosby was speeding in a red Hyundai Tucson eastbound on West 125th Street in a bus lane when he lost control near Frederick Douglass Boulevard, just after 8 p.m. on March 19. Bragg alleges that Crosby was under the influence of drugs when he lost control of the car.
The Bronx man hit a 28-year-old cyclist and a 33-year-old cyclist before hitting a Toyota RAV4 being driven by a 40-year-old man, police said.

Then, the driver hit a parked Lexus with a 28-year-old man and a 23-year-old man inside, before hitting an unoccupied parked NYPD cruiser and an unoccupied tractor-trailer, police said.
Zacarias Darly, the 28-year-old, was rushed to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital with severe head and neck trauma, where he was pronounced dead, Bragg said.

The 33-year-old cyclist was taken to Harlem Hospital in critical condition with head trauma, a broken leg, and a fractured elbow, Bragg said.
The man in the Toyota and the two men in the Lexus were also taken to Harlem hospital, in stable condition, authorities said.
"Two New Yorkers were riding their bikes to deliver food when they were struck by an SUV moving at an extremely high rate of speed. As alleged, Kevin Crosby’s fatal conduct cut Zacarias Darly’s life short, and critically injured the second cyclist," Bragg said.
Bragg said when Crosby was apprehended at the scene, officers recovered PCP from him.
Bragg said Crosby has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, manslaughter in the second degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs, and reckless driving.
"My thoughts are with Mr. Darly’s loved ones who are mourning his loss, as well as the second cyclist who is recovering," Bragg said.
