EAST HARLEM, NY — Family members of an East Harlem mother who was shot to death by her own son this week have launched an online fundraiser to help cover her funeral costs.

Fatoumata Danson, 39, was fatally shot Wednesday morning in her East Harlem apartment by her 22-year-old son, Musa Camara, according to police.

The GoFundMe was launched Wednesday by Mohamed Camara, another of Danson's sons. In addition to funeral expenses, donations will help Mohamed care of his younger siblings, according to a GoFundMe spokesperson.

"Danson, a mother of six, came to America in the 90s with the plan of building a better life for herself and her family. She was one of the most kind hearted and family oriented people," Camara wrote.

"Unfortunately, after having a rough relationship with her eldest son for a few years he decided to take her life on Tuesday morning. Sadly her life came to an end but she’s in a better place now."

The GoFundMe had raised nearly $4,000 of its $10,000 goal by Thursday afternoon.

Danson, a home health aide originally from The Gambia, had reportedly argued with her son over his failure to get a job shortly before the shooting, according to the Daily News.

Musa Camara, who reportedly has a history of mental illness, fled the building and fired a shot at a bystander on the street, according to police. He was later apprehended and hospitalized.
