Indictment In Mysterious Case of I-95 Gunshot Victim
The man was found on the side of the highway.
HARRISON, NY — A Bronx man has been indicted in the case of a gunshot victim left bleeding on I-95 in Harrison. Jamil Fields, 55, was arraigned on an indictment Wednesday before Judge Helen Blackwood and charged with:
- one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a class “B” Violent Felony
- one count of Assault in the First Degree, a class “B” Violent Felony
- one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class “C” Felony
- one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a class “D” Felony
At about 5:45 p.m. July 18, members of the New York State Police and other emergency personnel responded to the area north of Exit 18B on Interstate 95 northbound in Harrison. There they found a 25-year-old man on the side of the highway being cared for by civilians.
The victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including to his head, torso and left arm, according to Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr.

Investigators from the New York State Police ascertained that the victim had been in a U-Haul van when he was shot, just prior to exiting that vehicle as it traveled northbound on Interstate I-95. Further investigation led police to Fields, who they said had rented the U-Haul van in which the victim was shot.
On July 22, 2017 investigators located Fields driving a U-Haul van in the Bronx. They placed him under arrest.

Fields pleaded not guilty to the indictment. He was returned to jail. His next court date is Oct. 11. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in state prison.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney James Bavero of the Superior Court
Trial Division.
