Pop-Up Pool To Return To Brooklyn Bridge Park Next Summer

The Pier 2 pop-up will open for one more summer, the Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation announced Tuesday.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — A beloved pop-up pool that was slated to shut down this year will return to Brooklyn Bridge Park for one more summer, park officials announced Tuesday.

The Pier 2 pop-up pool was intended to be a temporary installation when first installed in 2012, but when its five-year contract ended in 2016, Brooklyn Heights parents banded together to beg the pool become a permanent fixture.

Their pleas spurred the Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation — the nonprofit responsible for managing and maintaining the park — to grant the neighborhood just one more season of contented splashing.

Summer 2017 was, once again, slated to be the pop-up pools’ finale season.

But on Tuesday, BBP announced that the pool would return to Brooklyn Bridge Park for one more year in the summer of 2018.

“The pop-up pool at Pier 2 made a true ‘splash’ when it first opened, and for years it has been a summer hot spot for children and families from across our borough,” said Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams in an official statement. “I am pleased that Brooklyn Bridge Park is showing their responsiveness to the community’s call for another year of this aquatic attraction.”

Swimmers who care to frequent the free 1500-square-foot pool will can also enjoy a beach, deck and concession stands.
