- South Huntington Schools will have armed guards outside of buildings. The guards will patrol the exteriors of buildings and will not be allowed inside unless there is an emergency. The school district says this action was taken due to nationwide gun violence at schools. “The Board of Education's vote to contract for armed security is another measure to protect our cherished students and beloved staff," South Huntington Board of Education President Nicholas Ciappetta said via news release. (Huntington Patch)
- Three people were saved from a sinkhole in Huntington Station Thursday. The six-foot wide by six-foot-deep sinkhole erupted on West 10th Street. Officers were called to rescue three people stuck inside. Bystanders assisted police to pull the two women and one man to safety. Luckily, no one was injured. The town of Huntington building inspector was called to evaluate the property and find out what caused the sinkhole. (Huntington Patch)
- Central Business Systems of Melville celebrates 75 years in business. The business was built on selling typewriters but has grown tremendously and now has a wide variety of services and products. "In our 75th year, we continue to evolve to provide customized solutions to meet the changing needs of our clients," co-owner Mike Chambers said via news release. "We are proud and feel blessed to have stood the test of time to reach this milestone, and we are grateful to our dedicated staff, valued customers and the community for their trust, support and continued commitment to us."(Huntington Patch)
- Noema Greek Restaurant opens in Huntington Village. Led by Food Network Chopped Champion Executive Chef Nicholas Poulmentis, the restaurant takes over the space that used to be 7 Gerard. - Huntington Union Free School District: Senior Anthony Annunziata has been recognized by the Suffolk County chapter of the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame as a Scholar Athlete. Annunziata has been invited to the organization’s annual brunch at the Marriott Melville Long Island on April 23. Just one student was selected from each high school in the county. - Huntington Arts Council, Inc.: The Arts Council is calling all artists for this exciting contest, Interpretive Sights: Art in Facts. "Interpretive Sights will seek to tie together the relationship between art and history through direct inspiration of select artifacts and historical documents representing Huntington’s storied history."
