Ballet Students Perform for American Ballet Theatre Adjudicator

Huntington Center for Performing Arts offers the American Ballet Theatre (R) National Training Curriculum culminating in annual exams.

Huntington May 2015…… Ballet students of Huntington Center for Performing Arts: Primary, Level 1, 2, 3A, 3B & 4 performed their ballet examinations at Huntington Center for Performing Arts in Huntington Village Sunday May 3, 2015.

Students ranging in age from 5.5 - 15 yrs currently study classical ballet year round following the American Ballet Theatre (R)( ABT )National Training Curriculum designed by the officials of the ABT School (Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School “JKO School”) is the official school of the American Ballet Theatre Ballet Company located in NYC. Each student receives a numerical evaluation (out of 100 points) as well as a personal review of their artistry, technical proficiency and even appearance. Upon completion of each exam they receive a certificate indicating their achievement - the highest being “high honors”.

These students have been trained for the past (4) years by Maeve Dougal an ABT® Affiliate Teacher who is certified in Primary through Level 7 of the AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE® National Training Curriculum and who holds an MA from NYU/ ABT program in ballet pedagogy. An ABT® Affiliate Teacher is a level of distinction for ABT® Certified Teachers that is granted to teachers who have successfully presented their students for examinations.

Joining Ms. Dougal this year are faculty members: Saya Harada, Jae Young Jung and Maria Piedad – all graduates of the NYU masters program affiliated with ABT. There is no school on Long island that has a faculty with these credentials.

The purpose of the examinations, which are given to each level as a whole, is to provide a healthy approach to the training of young ballet dancers that measures their development in technique, artistry at a recognized international standard.

“Ballet is the fundamental training technique used in all dance forms. Dance is a young persons’ art form and therefore it is the philosophy of ABT that the very youngest of student deserves the best possible training under the most qualified teacher. The ABT NTC provides this training and I am proud to be associated with this world renowned organization” states Joan Albright, Director of Huntington Center for Performing Arts.

Students 9 & up from Huntington Center will take part in the American Ballet Theatre’s Summer Intensive this summer in NYC for 2 weeks as well. Younger students will attend Huntington Center for Performing Arts Ballet Intensive commencing July 6.
