GODSPELL - February 7 & 8 at Temple Beth El

Simple Gifts Productions Performs GODSPELL on Saturday, 2/7 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, 2/8 at 6:00 pm at Temple Beth El ~ 660 Park Avenue.

Simple Gifts Productions, a Centerport-based performing arts studio for children/teens (grades K-12), will present Godspell on Saturday, February 7 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, February 8 at 6:00 PM. Performances will take place at Temple Beth El 660 Park Avenue Huntington, NY 11743. Adults are $18 and children (ages 10 and under) are $15.

Performed by SGP’s Teen Rep Company, and featuring a cast of 16 young people in grades 6 through 11, GODSPELL is composed of various parables taken from the Gospel According to Matthew. Through song, skits, dance and pantomime, Jesus recruits a group of followers and teaches them various life lessons. Suitable for family audiences (with kids 5 and older), although the Crucifixion scene can be rather intense.

Under the artistic direction of Dr. Karen Van Houten, Simple Gifts Productions studio offers children and teen mainstage productions performed by its Little Kidz Company, Kidz Company and Teen Repertory Company, as well as its Studio K’s “Got Talent” Showcases, featuring up-and-coming young pop artists. Later this year, SGP will present the Long Island premiere of a new school touring show (geared to grades 5 – 8), that addresses a host of current issues facing pre-teens today. SGP is also proud of its current and long-time students – Kelly and Kat Montenero – for being the national winners of the Kohl’s/Disney Frozen “Sing Your Heart Out” Contest.

Simple Gifts Productions is a professional performing arts studio for children and teens located at 90 B Washington Drive in Centerport, NY. In addition to its mainstage productions, it offers a variety of performing arts workshops, summer camp, private voice, piano and acting instruction, recording and music video opportunities and seminars with industry professionals.

SGP was founded in 2004 by Dr. Karen Van Houten who has over 30 years of professional experience and holds a doctorate in vocal performance/musical theater from New York University and a masters in voice performance from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Van Houten serves as artistic director of SGP and provides professional guidance, audition coaching and NYSSMA preparation on Long Island and Westchester County.
