Here are the top stories today in Huntington:
- Dix Hills Ice Rink to be renamed after Clark Gillies on Saturday. Clark Gillies was an Islanders legend, winning four Stanley Cups. Off the ice, he was just as much of a beloved member of the community, being involved in numerous charities and sitting on the Townwide Fund Board. On Saturday at 1 p.m. the Dix Hills Ice Rink will be renamed after Gillies in a ceremony attended by many prominent figures. (Patch)
- ICYMI: Huntington 2022-23 school budget preview. With residents ready to head to the polls on May 17, take a look at everything you need to know regarding next year's budget proposal. "The Board of Education and administration thank the community for its past support of our budgets," Huntington School Board President Christine Biernacki stated on the school district's website. "It is together that we will continue to provide a robust educational experience for all Huntington students. We are proud to present the 2022/23 budget for residents' consideration, which continues to meet these expectations in a most fiscally responsible manner."(Huntington Patch)
- First annual LGBTQ+ Huntington family picnic to be held on June 26. The event will be on Sunday, June 26 from 1-4 p.m. at Mill Dam Park. There will be food, music, and more. Organizer Jim Rubin Perez said, “The goal of the family pride picnic is to bring pride back to Huntington and we’ve created an event meant to be a family celebration. - The Townwide Fund Of Huntington: The Townwide Fund presented the Clark Gillies Foundation with a $10,000 check for Huntington children struggling with food insecurity. Clark was a board member at The Townwide Fund and a beloved member of the community. (Facebook)
- South Huntington Public Library: Join the library this Friday at 2 p.m. as they bring back its Friends of the Library group. The group was on hiatus during COVID-19 and they will be discussing future projects and fundraisers. (Facebook)
- Huntington Public Library: Star Wars fans, join the library on Saturday at 2 p.m. for 'May the 14th Be With You." There will be activities, crafts, treats, and more. Costumes are encouraged. (Facebook)
- Nextdoor Neighbor, Harborfields School District: "Just had Michael Demitriou and his buddy here to help spread mulch this morning, and they are super! On time, hard workers, pleasant to deal with. Very nice young men. They can help you with gardening and other chores." (Nextdoor)
