Here are the top 3 stories today in Huntington:

  1. Man steals $1,500 worth of wire from Huntington Station Home Depot. Police are looking for the man who stole nine rolls of Romex Wire from Home Depot on April 2. The incident occurred at 8:45 p.m. and the man drove off in a gray SUV. Police are asking anyone with information to all Crime Stoppers at 1-800-221-TIPS. (Huntington Patch)
  2. New Cold Spring Harbor Elementary School teacher to start July 1. Christina Alicea-Cosme has been in the New York City Public School System as an educator and administrator for the past 18 years. She has also served as an administrator in the Valley Stream School District. "We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Alicea-Cosme to our school district and community," Board of Education President Amelia W. Brogan said via news release. "We are confident her knowledge and professional experience will be an asset to Goosehill Primary School." (Huntington Patch)
  3. Nassau legislator proposes July 16 as Harry Chapin Day. Chapin was a Huntington singer-songwriter who was a philanthropist and activist on hunger issues, who died in 1981. The proposal date would kick off a three-week long food drive in which the county would partner with Long Island Cares Food Bank and other organizations. “His talents as a musical storyteller are only eclipsed by his desire to help others and his remarkable mission to end hunger here on Long Island and around the world. I can think of no better way of celebrating his life’s work than by supporting the cause he so passionately advocated for," Legislator Arnold W. Drucker (D-Plainview), said. (Huntington Now)
