From my notebook:

  • Nextdoor Neighbor, West Shore: "During yesterday's community garbage pickup in Coindre Hall Park we found a huge owl pellet on one of the trails in the woods. We carefully opened it to find the bones of a squirrel or a chipmunk, maybe a mouse. The size of the pellet suggests a Great Horned Owl, but we've been hearing Screech owls, so HOOOO knows! Wildlife is at Coindre Hall and needs our help!" (Nextdoor)
  • Nextdoor Neighbor, West Shore: "This is the 40 pounds of trash we picked up yesterday at Coindre Hall. - The cigarette butts were within 15 feet of a garbage can. Come down on Saturdays and help the community keep our park clean and healthy!" (Nextdoor)
  • Nextdoor Neighbor, Cold Spring Hills: "I have a used mattress in great condition that is up for sale. - It’s a queen size mattress. I would like to sell it for $700 price is negotiable. Pick up only." (Nextdoor)
  • Huntington Union Free School District: Huntington senior Naysa Escobar earns full scholarship to NYU. "It goes without saying that the location is a huge contributor,” the teenager said. “But what I really loved about NYU was its hands on student-to-business world engagement, social advice program such as Martin Luther King Scholars and the experience I can obtain by being in the city while also being commuting distance to my little brothers so I will never miss a birthday or event.” (Facebook)
  • Huntington Public Library: The Library will be holding A Budget Day Celebration with Pea Green Crayon on Tuesday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. There is still room at both times so call or register online. (Facebook)
