Here are the top 3 stories today in Huntington:

  1. Suffolk Police intercept thousands of dollars in two separate scams. Over the past two years, scams have risen tremendously with a focus on the elderly. Suffolk Police were able to intercept money shipped to an address in Mastic Beach and Huntington Station. In both incidences, the victims were elderly people falling for an elaborate phone scam and told to ship money from out of state to the Huntington Station and Mastic Beach locations. The total amount sent between both victims was over $20,000. (Huntington Patch)
  2. Halesite to hold back-to-back blood drives in April. There is an emergency shortage of blood in the Town of Huntington, and the blood drives will be held on April 21-22. They will be held at the American Legion from 3:30 to 8 p.m. "Our hospitals need the public's help with the emergency blood shortage we are facing," supervisor Ed Smyth stated. "One blood donation can save up to three lives — please donate share this life-saving gift." (Huntington Patch)
  3. Northport High School held a head-shaving event on March 11 with the St. Baldricks Foundation. The event was held to raise funds and public awareness for childhood cancer. Nora Nolan has been involved with the event for 17 years in Northport. “My first St. Baldrick’s event was at Napper Tandy’s in Northport, and it was just a really wild time with people having a lot of fun for a great cause,” she said. “I just got more and more involved. We’ve been affected in our community by children with cancer diagnoses. There’s definitely a need for more research and that’s one thing that the St. Baldrick’s Foundation supports.” (TBR News Media)
