  1. Huntington Station man hits police Seargent's car while driving drunk. Tracy Smith was driving his 2021 Volkswagen westbound on the LIE near exit 55 when he drove off the road and hit a Highway Patrol car. This occurred at 4:33 a.m., and the police car had its lights activated when hit. Smith then hit a 2008 Ford, but no one was injured. The Seargent was transported to Stony Brook Hospital where he was released a short time later. Smith was charged with a DWI. (Patch)
  2. New York State to drop mask mandate. After a long-debated topic on whether or not kids should be masked in schools, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced she is dropping the mask mandate, effective March 2. Hochul said: "The day has come. We are lifting the statewide mask requirements as of Wednesday."Hochul also stated that New York State will have zero tolerance for those who bully children who still come to school masked. (Patch)
  3. ICYMI: St. Hugh's Church partnering with three restaurants to donate 4,000 meals. The church will be joining the Harry Chapin Food Bank to distribute 4,000 meals on March 6. Racha Thai Cuisine, Prime, and Blind Bat Brewery Bistro will be teaming up to help the church. The funding has been provided by the State Resiliency Program, which gave Long Island Cares a $794,000 grant last year to purchase meals from qualified restaurants. (Huntington Patch)

  • Huntington Union Free School District: Senior Robbie Smith finished fourth in the 215 lb. weight class at the New York State Wrestling Championship. He finished his season 45-3 and was the first Huntington wrestler to earn All-State since 2016. (Facebook)
