Lupinacci, an outspoken advocate for New York to lead in tackling this nationwide issue, met with Raciti to discuss the community initiatives Pro-NEO has begun and the ways in which state government can be more involved in overcoming this issue.

“As the heroin and opioid crisis intensifies across the country, it is important we start the discussion on the dangers of these substances as early as possible,” said Lupinacci. “Too often we’ve heard stories of individuals using drugs in their teenage years and turning to harder substances later down the road. By starting the conversation in the classroom, around the dinner table and with friends, Tyler is making an exceptional contribution as we work towards a solution. The community response has been overwhelming and it is clear that our communities are ready to fight heroin and opioid addiction in any way they can.”

Raciti, a recent graduate of Valley Stream High School and an incoming Freshman at Pace University, said that forming Pro-NEO was a result of his efforts to bring treatment strategies into high schools throughout the state. Lupinacci and Pro-NEO have begun working on a bill that would expand access to treatment options within educational settings, such as high schools and public libraries.

“To stop heroin and opioid abuse, we must address it at all levels. That begins by providing our libraries and school districts with the resources needed to help those who are addicted and to treat those suffering from an overdose. I would like to applaud Tyler for his efforts and I look forward to working alongside him and Pro-NEO in the future to stop this epidemic,” Lupinacci concluded.

Assemblyman Lupinacci represents the 10th District, which consists of parts of Suffolk County. For more information, please visit Assemblyman Lupinacci’s Official Website.
