Suffolk County Police Members to Be Honored for Saving Officer Collins, Detective Guerrero
The two men were injured in Huntington in the line of duty this past year.

The Suffolk County Police Department will recognize many sworn and civilian members of the department for their life-saving efforts, including saving the life of Police Officer Mark Collins and Detective Nicholas Guerrero.
Collins was seriously injured after being shot twice during a traffic stop in Huntington Station on the night of Wednesday, March 11.

Guerrero suffered a “very serious head injury” after he and another officer were struck by a car they had just pulled over in Huntington in September.
Twenty-eight sworn members of the department will be recognized for their bravery at the SCPD’s 50th annual awards ceremony at 7 p.m. at Stony Brook University on Tuesday.

The Medal of Honor will be awarded to retired Detective Dennis Delaney and posthumously to Sgt. Anthony Pierri, who were involved during the 1971 shooting incident that killed Officer George Frees.
A prosecutor from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, three police department civilian employees and one citizen will also be recognized at the celebration.
