📰 News we're reading
• Central Islip Calls for Growth Plan, 'Fair Share' of State Funds (lilifepolitics.com) — Central Islip residents are pressing New York State and the MTA to fix dangerous, chronically blocked rail crossings and crumbling state roads that they say threaten safety and choke off growth. Local leaders argue the hamlet has added housing and sewers but isn't getting its fair share of transportation dollars, and they're demanding overpasses, road repaving, and a coordinated growth plan from Albany.

• Taco Bell crash on Long Island: driver flees, vehicle abandoned (eatscv.com) — A car recently plowed through the front of the Taco Bell on Main Street in Islip, then was abandoned with the driver fleeing before emergency crews arrived. Three overnight employees escaped injury, while town fire marshals, building inspectors, and Suffolk police now assess structural safety and investigate the hit‑and‑run, which could affect access and operations at the popular fast‑food spot.

• Safety issues raised over Manorville battery plant project (newsday.com) — State-backed plans for a massive battery storage plant in Manorville are raising safety questions among nearby residents and firefighters, even as Brookhaven officials move the project toward a 2030 opening. At the same time, the Town of Islip has tightened rules on large Tier 3 batteries, effectively blocking a separate Hauppauge project and underscoring growing Long Island concern over battery fires and toxic plumes.
