E. Northport Woman Critically Hurt After Crashing SUV While Fleeing Police

The woman drove over several lawns before hitting a pole and tree, police say.

A 22-year-old East Northport woman was attempting to flee police when she crashed her SUV into a pole and tree in Hauppauge on Saturday afternoon, police said.

Alyssa Leppert is in critical condition at Stony Brook University Hospital following the crash near the intersection of Route 111 and Veterans’ Memorial Highway, police said.

According to police, Leppert was driving a Chevy TrailBlazer erratically when a Third Precinct officer attempted to pull her over in a cul-de-sac on Kurt Lane at about 4:40 p.m. Leppert evaded the officer by driving on the lawns of multiple houses, to get back onto Route 111, police said.

Leppert continued driving north on Route 111, evading police until she lost control of the SUV and struck a telephone pole and then a tree, about 20 yards south of Route 347 at about 4:45 p.m., police said. Leppert’s vehicle came to rest at the intersection of Route 111 and Veterans’ Memorial Highway, police said.

The investigation is continuing.
