Badger Sweeps at Senior Metropolitan Championships

Larchmont's Badger Swim Club won the Men's, Woman's and Combined titles at the Senior Metropolitan Swimming Championships.

Larchmont's Badger Swim Club swept all three team titles at the Senior Metropolitan Swimming Championships, held last weekend at Lehman College. Badger won the Men's, Woman's, and Combined titles by convincing margins over powerful New York powerhouses, Asphalt Green and the New York Athletic Club, and twenty-five other Metropolitan area teams. Nearly 500 swimmers were involved in the area's showcase competition.

Led by Rye's Kevin Hughes, who has won all four middle distance freestyle events and a groundbreaking men's 4 x 200 freestyle relay, and wins by Kelly Johnson of Larchmont in the 500 yard freestyle, and Chris Lyons in the 200 yard individual medley. The Badgers had depth and strength in nearly every event during the grueling three day trials and final meet.

Hughes, 17, headed for Notre Dame in September, won the 200, 500, 1,000, and 1,650 yard freestyle, and teamed with Larchmont's Wyatt Collins, Rye's Chris Lyons, and Long Island's Samuel Mo, to break a 17-year old meet record in the 4 x 200 freestyle relay.
