Daily Sports Digest: Snow Falls as Playoffs Begin

While the snow turned out to be enough to postpone the Mamaroneck Ossining girl’s soccer game until today, several other local teams were in action. Mamaroneck’s football team fell on the road while Rye Neck won at home.

Mamaroneck’s boy’s soccer team won and they advanced to the next round where they will meet up against John Jay (EF) tomorrow. Rye Neck’s girl’s soccer team didn’t fair as well as the team fell to the higher seeded Briarcliff team.

Mamaroneck stayed alive in volleyball as the Tigers picked up an upset win at Scarsdale.

Rye Neck will take on Croton Harmon today in field hockey and volleyball as the playoffs resume.

Sport: Boy’s Soccer

Game: Ketcham @ Mamaroneck

Score:  Mamaroneck Won 1-0

Highlights: Mamaroneck started the playoffs on the right foot as they got a hard- fought victory at home. Next up for the Tigers will be John Jay (EF) on Tuesday.

Game: Mamaroneck @ Yorktown

Score:  Yorktown Won 42-35

Highlights: Mamaroneck fell on the road on Friday night but the Tigers did get a great effort from Brett Poinros who had over 100 yards rushing at two touchdowns. Mamaroneck almost tied the game but the Tigers had a touchdown taken off the board because of a penalty in the final minutes.

Sport: Volleyball

Game: Mamaroneck @ Scarsdale

Score:  Mamaroneck Won 3-1

Highlights: After falling in the first set, Mamaroneck rallied and won the next three to upset the sixth seeded Raiders. Carina Spiro led Scarsdale in the loss with 18 kills.

Game: Valhalla @ Rye Neck

Score:  Rye Neck Won 26-0

Sport: Girl’s Soccer

Game: Rye Neck @ Briarcliff

Score: Briarcliff Won 4-0

Highlights: Rehema Ulli had 36 saves in goal for Rye Neck but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers fell to second seeded Briarcliff 4-0. Gabriel DeFruntos had two goals in the win.
