Mamaroneck Defeats New Rochelle 14-9 in Girls Lacrosse
Junior captain Lauren Rush had four goals for the Tigers.
The strategy was simple for Mamaroneck girls lacrosse coach Laurie De Rosa and her Tigers: keep Huguenots Junior Misha Green under control as a team and walk out of New Rochelle High School with a big victory.
Her squad was able to accomplish their goals, defeating the Huguenots 14-9. The Tigers controlled the first half, leading 9-5 at halftime.
The Tigers were able to score two goals near the end of the first half to give themselves a comfortable lead. Liza Stephanz, the Tigers goalkeeper had two big saves at the end of the half, keeping Tigers' favorable margin.

Another key contributor to the Lady Tigers win was Jessica Corbin. Corbin helped Mamaroneck control the middle of the field against New Rochelle. Coach DeRosa took notice to Corbin's effort yesterday.
"Her footwork was perfect," DeRosa said. "She was able to spark the transition game and deter most of New Rochelle's offensive rushes."
New Rochelle, whose program is still growing, showed a lot of potential against the more experienced Tigers. While she was swarmed with defenders all day, Green showed why De Rosa was concerned with keeping an eye on this all around athlete. She was able to sprint upfield from end to end and create offense for the Huguenots.
As for the team's game strategy, De Rosa was happy with how disciplined her team was and how well they executed on both ends of the field.
"We were able to use our double teams to our advantage," DeRosa said. "New Rochelle had a tough time moving the ball and we were able to run our offense and get what we wanted on that end of the field."
Mamaroneck stands at 6-5 this season and is on its way to sectionals. They meet their rivals, the Scarsdale Raiders, at the end of the season and the team is very excited to play them before the playoffs.
Scarsdale knocked Mamaroneck out of the playoffs the past two seasons, something that the Mamaroneck players have not forgotten.
"We are extremely pumped to play them this year," said Rush. "We are more prepared this year and welcome the challenge before and during the playoffs."
