Rye Neck Girls Basketball Team Falls to Briarcliff

Rye Neck needs to win each of its remaining three games to make the playoffs.

The Briarcliff girls basketball team, ranked No. 14 in New York State in small-school Class B, used an 18-0 run in the first quarter, coupled with a 48-10 first half to coast to a 60-17 win over home-standing Rye Neck Friday night at Rye Neck High School.

Junior guard Savina Reid led all scorers with 16 points for Briarcliff (12-2). Twin-sister Brianna Reid added 11, including a team high three 3-pointers.

Ten Bears scored for the visitors, who had all five starters score within the game's first three minutes.

Freshman Paige O'Donnell led the Panthers (2-13) with six points. Rye Neck needs to win each of its remaining three games to make the playoffs; teams need five wins in order to advance into Sectionals. Their next home game is their regular season finale, scheduled for Feb. 5 against Pleasantville.
