Scarsdale Softball Dominates Mamaroneck, 13-1
Scarsdale's Rachel Halperin powered the Raiders to victory with a key three-run double.
Four runs in the third and a bases loaded three-run double in the fourth sealed the deal for the Scarsdale Raiders as they drubbed the Mamaroneck Tigers 13-1 in a softball contest Thursday.
The Raider bats took a while to get going, but when they did, the hits wouldn't stop.
"We started a little slow," Scarsdale assistant coach Kevin Carrigan said.

Both teams' bats were mostly silent until the Raiders opened up with four runs in the third. That's when Rachel Halperin hit a three-run double with the bases loaded, extending the lead to 7-0.
Scarsdale's defense was stellar. The Tigers were only able to score once -- an insignificant run in the bottom of the seventh that was too little, too late.

Mamaroneck head coach Diane Campbell credited the Raiders for locking down her batters.
"Whoever plays the best defense wins the game," she said.
Prior to the game, Scarsdale still appeared to have a key issue that needed to be addressed: Raiders head coach Dave Scagnelli was seen reminding his team to remain focused from warm-ups until the game's conclusion.
Scagnelli did not want his players to take Thursday's game lightly after a previous 16-0 shutout victory over the Tigers.
"We've got to be focused for every game," Scagnelli told them in a post-game speech.
Tigers pitcher Sammy Gitlin struck out eight batters and gave up nine hits in seven innings.
The Raiders used pitcher Nicole Lee until the fourth inning, until Meredith Stevens was brought in to throw the rest of the frames and close out the game.
Mamaroneck plays next on the road at Mount Vernon on Monday, while Scarsdale plays in the James "Ace" Morabito Softball Tournament this Weekend in Binghamton, N.Y.
