Our weekly roundup of Larchmont-Mamaroneck sports.

The Mamaroneck and Rye Neck sports teams finished out their seasons and began playoff competition this past week. 

 

Mamaroneck Tigers

Ending the regular season with a loss to Scarsdale 44-37, the Tigers girls basketball team advanced on to Sectional play Friday, defeating the Fox Lane Foxes 47-34 behind 16 points from Danielle Degina and 14 from Abby Balgelman. The Tigers then lost to Ossining High School 77-44 behind 12 points from Danielle DeAndrea and 11 from Nikki Smith. The team finished the season at 7-12.

After back to back losses against Mount Vernon, 75-47, and a 55-49 loss to Scarsdale on Monday to end the season, the boys basketball team suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Mahopec 46-42 in a game knotted up 20-20 at the break, ending the Tigers' season at 8-11. Sam Gruppo had 22 points against Scarsdale, with Matt Mezansky leading the way with 17 against Mahopec.

With a bad taste in their mouth from a 10-0 loss to Suffern, the Tigers ice hockey team is currently on a three game winning streak after beating Fordham Prep 2-1 on Tuesday on two straight goals from Scott Hagan. The squad then went on to beat Salem River Central School 4-1 on Thursday, and Massena Central High School 5-1 on Friday. They currently stand at 17-3. Matt Conner tallied three goals.

 

Rye Neck Panthers

Rye Neck boys basketball lost their last regular season game to Pleasantville 48-33, with Justin Franks leading the Panthers with 14. In Class B Sectional playoff action,  Briarcliff got the best of them in a 69-52 defeat on Thursday. They were behind 17 points from Ryan Pennell and 16 from Brendan Crowley, ending the season at 6-13.

The girls basketball and ice hockey teams did not play.
