Tigers Become Tournament Kings in Hockey

Mamaroneck beats Glen Rock 6-2 at Hommocks ice rink.

The Mamaroneck Tigers  were declared champions for two years in a row now,  after winning the ice hockey Tiger Tournament last night. 

Mamaroneck High School beat New Jersey's Glen Rock High School 6 to 2 at the Hommocks Park Ice Rink. The night before, the Tigers beat Monroe-Woodbury High School 6 to 4.

Coach Mike Chiapparelli  said he was proud of his boys. "They played really well," the Mamaroneck High School alum said. "They are number three in the state!"

Students and parents cheered for their team all night, screaming "Let's go, team" to the Tigers and "Go home!" to Glen Rock. 

Chipparelli said he was glad his team won something that has become a tradition at Mamaroneck High School. "The Tiger Tournament has been around for more than 18 years," he said.

After their victory, the team excitedly jumped up and down and gave each other hugs. Sam Christiansen, team captain said he was enthralled. "It's great!" the 16-year-old junior said. "I love it that we won our own tournament. We would not have had it any other way."
