Woman Charged With Attempted Murder Of Mamaroneck Police Officers

A Go Fund Me account has been set up to help with funeral expenses of the woman's 2-year-old daughter.

MAMARONECK, NY — An arrest has been made in the attempted murder of two police officers in Mamaroneck, the circumstances of which resulted in the death of 2-year-old Gabriella Boyd. The Westchester County District Attorney’s Office said Cynthia Arce, 28, was placed under arrest Tuesday at the Westchester County Medical Center where she is being treated for a gunshot wound sustained during her alleged attack on the police officers Saturday.

Arce was charged with two counts of attempted aggravated murder of a police officer, felonies.

She was arraigned in County Court and was remanded to the custody of the Westchester County Department of Corrections.

The Legal Aid Society has been assigned to represent her, and she is scheduled to appear in the Village of Mamaroneck Court May 3.

The district attorney’s office said Arce attacked the two Village of Mamaroneck police officers who responded to a 911 call at the house where Arce lived with her mother and her daughter.

Police said she repeatedly slashed and stabbed at the officers with “two large sharpened instruments.”

Police Officer Osvaldo Ramos sustained a large laceration to his left hand as he tried to protect himself, and Police Officer Joseph Gaglione, who had fallen to the floor, sustained a wound to his foot as he was kicking at the defendant to block her attack, authorities said.

No other charges have been filed at this time.

The DA’s office said the circumstances that gave rise to this tragedy, including the events which took place Friday, April 27, are the subject of an ongoing investigation.

The Westchester County Medical Examiner is performing an autopsy on Boyd, and the results are expected to take some time.

The lawyer of the child’s father, Stephen Boyd, said the Mamaroneck village police refused to carry out a family court order Friday, April 27. He said Stephen Boyd and the police went to the house where Arce and Gabriella Boyd lived, but Arce refused to give them the child and shut the door on them.

On Saturday, April 28, Arce was shot by police after allegedly injuring the two officers when the use of a stun gun failed.

The Mamaroneck PBA said that the shooting of Arce likely saved the police officers’ lives.

Martin Rosen, Stephen Boyd’s attorney, said Boyd was in a custody dispute with Arce over their daughter.

A Go Fund Me fundraising page has been set up to help with funeral expenses for Gabriella Boyd.

Angelique Clavell-Sequinot, a friend of the family, set up the account which will go toward funeral expenses and eventually setting up a foundation in her honor.

“Gabriella’s family was only given 2-1/2 wonderful years with this beautiful angel on earth,” Clavell-Sequinot wrote on the website. “While our hearts are broken and still mourning, Gabriella’s family are having to go through the difficult steps of laying her to rest, both emotionally and financially.”

As of the evening of Tuesday, May 1, $4,411 out of a goal of $10,000 has been raised.
