Another Winner this month for The Love Story of the Month
Another winner of the Love Story of the month, The Rao's from Levittown.
This is a beautiful Love Story of Anthony and Catherine Rao, married for 56 years from Levittown...This is an incredible story of one of my best friend's parents, however a very sad one. A couple of days ago, Levittown lost a great man.
Anthony Rao was the greatest husband to his beautiful wife Catherine, the most wonderful father to his 14 children (yes I said 14), as well as a fantastic grandfather to his 35 grandchildren. Mr. Rao, as I used to call him every time I would go over to my best friend Mary's house in Levittown, was a kind, funny, gentle; yet very strong and powerful man. He was a very intimidating man when you first met him, being a retired Sergeant of the NYPD as well as being a former Navy Vet, yet once you got to know him, he became very easy to talk to.
If you ever lived in Levittown, or went to St. Bernard's Church, or attended Hold Trinity High School, you had to know at least one of the Rao's.

Mary and I became friends when we both started working our first jobs at the CVS in Levittown. Mary and I had such similar family values and traditions, it is no wonder that we have remained great friends up until this day. I remember loving to go over to the Rao home that used to be on Haven Lane. It is probably the biggest house in Levittown. When Mary gave me my first tour of this amazingly beautiful mansion, she told me that her father built the entire upstairs extensions himself. Amazing. Everything about Mr. Rao was amazing.
God was a very important part of the Rao family values. Mr. Rao, after being ill, wished to be at his home, when it was his time to "go to God" as he told his family. Thank God he got his wish. His family proudly did all the necessary work involved to grant their father his wish and according to Mary, they all got to be with their dad for the two days he got to be home. Mary told me this morning, as their family were all around him, that he put a big smile on his face and after telling them all how proud he was of them, he said, "I need to go home to God now."

My sincere condolences to the entire Rao family. Mrs. Rao was always a woman whom I greatly admired. A beautiful, thin, petite lady, who seems so delicate to look at, is truly a remarkably strong and powerful woman.
My best friend for sixteen years Mary, also beautiful and one of the kindest people I know; I wish I could take this pain away for you. I know your father was very proud of you. Once a successful business woman in banking, then getting married to your great husband Pete, and now a loving mother to two beautiful children-and always a loving daughter, you were and are every dream for a father to have as his daughter.
I'm hoping that knowing how much your father admired you, and how much your father was admired by everyone who knew him, will give you the comfort and strength to get through this very difficult time.
Your parents love for each-other for over 56 years is truly one of the finest Love Stories in Levittown.
