Fire Commissioner Candidate: Andrew Booth
The candidate tells voters why they should vote for him.
Editor's Note: Patch is running letters from each of the candidates for the Levittown Fire Commissioner election on Dec. 13. The following is a letter from candidate Andrew Booth:
My name is Andrew Booth and I am seeking your vote for commissioner of Levittown Fire District. I would like to tell you some things about myself.
I have been married to the same woman, Joyce, for 44 years. Our son Andrew and his wife Phyllis gave us two granddaughters.

I joined the Levittown Fire Department in 1978 and rose to the rank of captain. After leaving the office of captain, the chief's office asked if I would join the chief's staff.
I served on the chief's training committee two years until the chiefs appointed me as department training chairperson. While with the training committee, we trained the members in the use of C.P.R.

I also was given a few awards, including one for saving a life in a house fire. But if I keep on telling you about my years with the fire department, I will not have time to tell you more things that I am proud of.
I worked for the Nassau County Correction center as a cook. I not only cooked, but I put a budget together. After 20 years I retired.
I would like to tell you of the years I've served on the budget review committee with the Levittown School District. I volunteer because of the children. The budget review committee meets with the department heads to see where the committee can save money without hurting the children of this great community. We were working with close to two million dollars.
For more than 16 years, I've served Thanksgiving dinner to our seniors, where we serve more than 300 meals at a cost of just less than $2 per person. I also want all of you who don't know to know that I served with the U.S. Marines for six years. I serve with C.S.E.A. Union Long Island Region Veterans Committee.
In conclusion, I want the Levittown Fire District residents to ask themselves:
1) Who served on committees that dealt with large budgets?
2) Who served as captain of the fire department?
3) Who serve on the training committee, one of the most important committees with a fire department?
4) Who started the training department members in C.P.R.?
5) Who started the department in the use of large diameter hose with a saving that we still enjoy?
I am a member of the Levittown Kiwanis. I am chairperson of the Terrific Kid Award. I am a veteran and I also serve with the veterans who went to Albany to get a law pass to allow the teaching of our American flag. I have the endorsement of C.S.E.A. Union.
For God and Country
Andrew Booth
