Island Trees Notebook: Environmental Advocates and Personal Best Awards

Middle School Students Work to Help the Environment
Island Trees Memorial Middle School seventh graders Emily Barcia, Ashley Jablonowski, Julia Maniscalco and Jennifer Maniscalco have been working hard to help save the local environment. Along with their Girl Scout Troop, they have researched the problems of cars idling and how that affects the environment.

The girls, as part of their project, made a presentation to the administration at the middle school, according to a release from the school district. Additionally, they donated “No Idling Zone” signs, which were placed around the school area.
“We congratulate Emily, Ashley, Julia, and Jennifer on their work in helping to make a difference in the environment and the world,” said Island Trees Memorial Middle School Principal Roger Bloom in the release.

Personal Best Awards Honor ITMMS Students
Forty-one students at Island Trees Memorial Middle School were honored on June 3 at the “Personal Best Awards,” according to the release from the district.
Facilitated by the school’s Student Support Center, it seeks to recognize students for demonstrating “growth and development” throughout the entirety of the academic year. Each student was nominated by their respective teachers for their hard work and dedication towards attaining personal goals that had been set. They were given a certificate and pin in honor of their great accomplishments at the ceremony.
