NHL Veteran Rob Scuderi Has Levittown Roots

Watching veteran hockey player Rob Scuderi and the Los Angeles Kings team playing in the Stanley Cup Finals against New Jersey, it's hard to imagine that he once attended Island Trees schools.

The 33-year-old lived in Bethpage and attended St. Anthony's in Huntington while in high school, before heading off to Boston College and later the NHL, according to a recent Newsday feature:

Scuderi, a veteran defenseman for the Los Angeles Kings, doesn't come from a long line of hockey players like many of his NHL brethren. In fact, no one in his family had played the game before his newlywed parents moved to a house in Bethpage that backed up to a large sump.

Before that, however, Scuderi was a member of the Island Trees community, attending both elementary and middle school, graduating from Island Trees Memorial Middle School in 1993.

Scuderi, an 8-year veteran, has a long list of accomplishments on his resume, including a 2009 Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins and a 2001 NCAA Championship with Boston College. After winning the cup with Pittsburgh, Scuderi signed a four-year deal with the Kings for $13.6 million.

The Kings are up 1-0 on the Devils in the best-of-7 series going into Saturday night's game.
