Lindenhurst Force Defeats Longwood After Advancing to LI Cup Semifinals

The Lindenhurst Force BU11 Travel Soccer team shut out Longwood Heat after advancing to semifinals against Wantagh-Seaford Galaxy.

The Lindenhurst Force BU11 Travel Soccer team scored a decisive victory over the Longwood Heat Saturday afternoon, winning 4-0.

This victory comes on the heels of the team’s advance to the semifinals of the Long Island Junior Soccer League's prestigious, single-elimination Long Island Cup Tournament last week.

This week’s shutout win over Longwood had a somewhat unusual outcome, with all four goals scored on head balls.

Jason Koehler scored the first three goals for the hat trick, and Noah Daniels finished off the scoring. John Mineo and David Ostrander had strong games for the team, while goalkeeper Dean Pereira racked up another shutout victory.

The previous week on May 1, the team advanced to the LI Cup semifinals in dramatic fashion with a 2-1, double-overtime victory over the Wantagh-Seaford Galaxy.

With the team down 1-0 late in the second half of the match, midfielder Daniels tied the game with a header off of a corner kick, forcing the game into overtime.

Late in the second overtime, Colin Sherlock delivered another well-placed corner kick that was again headed into the goal by Daniels for his second goal of the match and a "golden goal" (sudden death) victory for the team.

The coaches were proud of the entire team for its "never say die" attitude and well-deserved win.

The team is part of the Lindenhurst Junior Squires Soccer League, which is based out of the , located at 293 Buffalo Avenue.
