Police: Drunk Amityville Man Drove 117 MPH on Southern State

Man arrested after fleeing police early Saturday, police say.

An Amityville man was arrested Saturday after police say he was drunk as he fled from police driving 117 mph on the Southern State Parkway.

According to State Police, troopers attempted to stop a gray Saab for speeding on the eastbound side of the Southern State near Exit 31–Bethpage State Parkway–at 2:50 a.m. Saturday.

The Saab accelerated and continued east on the Southern State before exiting at Exit 36–Straight Path, police said.

Troopers were able to read the license plate on the Saab before troopers lost sight of the vehicle, police said.

A registration check on the Saab came back to 4 Smith Street in Amityville, police said.

Troopers went to the address, where they arrested 30-year-old Michael Richardson, police said.

Richardson, of the same address, admitted to driving the vehicle, police said.

Richardson is charged with DWI, reckless driving, third degree fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, aggravated unlicensed operation and several traffic violations, including speeding (117 mph in a 55 mph zone).

Richardson was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday. He is being held on $2,000 bond or $1,000 cash bail.
