Bats Out for Lazar

As we trek our beach, we reflect on how good life is here in Long Beach. But we might realize, it can change—quickly.

Life can change quickly, and sadly for some of us.

But too often, only a tragedy wakes us to something overlooked or taken for granted.

The tragic death of ten-year-old Lazar LaPenna was one of those awakenings.

Lazar, #9, died April. 29, 2022, after running to first base in a Little League game. I wrote about it here.

If an Automatic Electronic Defibrillator (AED) had been on hand at that ball field—he might be playing ball of some kind somewhere this year.

But it wasn’t, so he’s not.

Lazar’s family and others have created the Bats Out for Lazar Foundation.

Bats Out for Lazar ensures that all ballfields, summer camps, and recreational facilities are equipped with AEDs.

April 27th will be the second annual 999 Squat Challenge. Alex will lead us in 999 squats. You can do as many as you can. Or just come to cheer for the group—and Lazar.

Join us at 11 a.m. in front of Surfside Eats, Lazar’s Glizzy. Lincoln Blvd on the boards. And wear purple if you can, Lazar's fav color.

There will be 50/50 tickets available to fund Bats Out for Lazar.

If you pitch in and give, a young kid might live.

See you all there.

Be well,

Leebythesea
