Long Beach To Appoint New Acting City Manager Tonight
John Mirando, the commissioner of public works, will take over as acting city manager.

The Long Beach City Council plans to appoint John Mirando as the Acting City Manager at a special meeting tonight.
The City Council announced that it would be holding a special meeting after the work session planned for this evening. At 7:30 p.m. the council will meet to appoint Mirando as the Acting City Manager, according to the meeting's agenda.
Mirando is currently the city's Commissioner of Public Works. He will keep his position and be the Acting City Manager. The resolution the City Council is voting on will allow him to hold two positions at once.

He will take over as Acting City Manager effective immediately, the resolution states.
The current Acting City Manager, Robert Asgostisi is retiring, effective Oct. 1. Agostisi is also the city's corporation counsel. He took over the position from Police Commissioner Michael Tangney, who also temporarily held the role. The city has not had a permanent City Manager since Jack Schnirman left in January 2018 to become the Nassau County Comptroller.

Agostisi has come under fire for his handling of the State Comptroller's audit of the city and its separation payments, and was recently accused by council members of trying to cut them out of the response to the audit.
