Long Beach Fire That Injured Firefighters Was Intentional: Police

Four firefighters suffered minor injuries putting out a fire that police say deliberately set.

UPDATE: Police and the Nassau County Fire Marshal say that the fire early Wednesday morning began on the first floor of the home at 14 West Walnut St. in Long Beach and was deliberately set.

The Long Beach Fire Department responded to a call to 14 West Walnut St. at 6:12 a.m. When they arrived, firefighters saw smoke and fire coming from the windows on the second floor of the house. When firefighters entered, they found the inside had many areas of heavy fire.

The fire department sent out a call for aid, and units from Oceanside, Baldwin, Atlantic Beach, Island Park and Lido-Point Lookout sent units to help, and the fire was soon brought under control.

According to the Long Beach Fire Department, four firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the fire, and two were taken to the Long Beach Emergency Room for treatment.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal is currently at the scene of the fire investigating. According to the LBFD, the fire seems suspicious.
