Long Beach Holding Town Hall With Police Commissioner Hopefuls
The city has narrowed down the next police commissioner to two possible candidates, and will give the public a chance to ask them questions.
LONG BEACH, NY — The city will be holding a community forum next week to introduce residents to the two people that have been narrowed down to finalists in the search for a new police commissioner.
Police Commissioner Michael Tagneny retired in May after 42 years in the department after the city proposed cutting his salary by $60,000 to $175,000. Since then, the city has been searching for a new commissioner.
The city said it has narrowed down its field of candidates to Chief Ronald Walsh of the Nassau County Police Department and Philip Ragona, a retired LBPD inspector who is currently serving as the acting commissioner.

The town hall will be held on Oct. 27 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Both Walsh and Ragona will have a chance to provide remarks before taking questions that are submitted by the community. Because of the coronavirus, the town hall will be held virtually. Residents can watch on the city's YouTube page.
Long Beach residents can submit questions by clicking here. Questions must be submitted by Oct. 25.

After the town hall is over, the city will ask viewers to provide feedback on the candidates via an online survey.
