Long Beach Polar Bear Splash is Sunday

Event has raised more than $130,000 so far.

With a foot of snow on the ground and projected 20 degree temperatures, Long Beach Polar Bears are heading into the water on Sunday.

Brave swimmers will head to the beach for the annual Polar Bear Splash, which officially begins at 1:30 p.m.

Shuttles will run to and from the event between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Routes are as follows:

  • FROM EAST END: Begins at LIRR to Park Avenue East to Maple Boulevard to Broadway to Riverside Boulevard, back to LIRR
  • FROM WEST END: Begins on Ohio Avenue & Beech Street along Beech to Grand Blvd. to Broadway. Continues along Broadway to Riverside Boulevard, back to Ohio Avenue

The splash is held every Super Bowl Sunday and collects money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Long Beach’s event is held in memory of Paulie Bradley, who died at four years old before being able to receive his wish.

Thousands of brave swimmers congregate each year to jump in the ocean for a good cause. Last year, 15,000 swimmers and supporters came to Long Beach and raised $670,000.
