Police ID Sword-Wielding Nassau Man Shot, Killed By Officers
Police identified a 36-year-old Long Island man who was shot and killed by officers last week after lunging at them with a sword.
OCEANSIDE, NY — Police have identified a 36-year-old Oceanside man who was shot and killed by officers last week after he lunged at them with a sword.
Officers responded to a home on Columbus Avenue just after 6 p.m. on Sept. 17 for a domestic incident. Brian Rodden, who reportedly had a history of mental illness, had been arguing with his father and sister and had multiple knives on him, police said.
The officers were questioning Rodden's father when he entered carrying multiple knives, and then a samurai sword. The officers repeatedly demanded he drop the weapon, but he refused, police said. Two officers opened fire when he lunged at them.
