North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena Joins Stop & Shop Pharmacists in Urging Flu Shots

Town Supervisor Rolled Up Sleeve and Received Flu and COVID-19 Immunizations

Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena, received both her flu and COVID-19 immunization from Stop & Shop Pharmacists at the Port Washington Stop & Shop located at 65 Shore Road, and called on her residents to get their flu and COVID-19 shots as early as possible this fall. The flu vaccine helps reduce serious respiratory illness and can help protect a person throughout flu season, which can last into May. Stop & Shop pharmacies have been providing more immunizations year over year to protect their community.

Stop & Shop announced that the updated COVID-19 and flu vaccines are available at all its pharmacy locations across the Northeast, including its 25 pharmacies on Long Island. Customers can receive immunizations for both the flu and COVID-19 during the same pharmacy visit. Vaccines are available at no cost with most insurance plans and are administered by Stop & Shop's licensed, trained, and trusted pharmacists. In addition to annual flu and COVID-19 vaccinations, Stop & Shop Pharmacy offers a variety of immunizations that can help protect against respiratory illnesses, including RSV and pneumococcal disease, making it easy for customers to access preventive healthcare during their regular shopping trips.

"Our pharmacies play an important role in helping customers stay healthy throughout the year," said Katie Thornell, Director of Pharmacy at Stop & Shop. "Whether it's getting a flu shot, staying up to date on recommended vaccinations, filling a prescription, or speaking with one of our trusted pharmacists, we're committed to providing convenient access to the care and resources our customers need to support their health and well-being."

The CDC recommends everyone 6 months of age and older, with rare exceptions, receive a flu vaccine each year to help reduce the risk of influenza and its potentially serious complications. September and October remain the best times for most people to get vaccinated.

“North Hempstead takes the well-being of our residents seriously, so we’re thrilled to partner with Stop & Shop to make it easier for people to protect themselves and their families,” said North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena. “Having vaccines available right in our neighborhood grocery stores means you can take care of your health while you’re already doing something like picking up groceries. It’s convenient, accessible, and another way we can work together to help keep our community healthy.”
