Over 5,000 walkers participated in the ALS Association Greater New York Chapter’s 17th Annual Long Island Walk to Defeat ALS

The ALS Association relentlessly pursues its mission to help people living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

On Saturday, September 16th, The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter hosted the 17th Annual Walk to Defeat ALS fund raiser at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, NY.

More than 5,000 walkers came together, making it the largest ALS walk in the country. Walkers were be joined by former Yankee pitcher, Jeff Nelson, and before and after the Walk there were family friendly activities such as face painting, music, mascots, refreshments, and other fun & games.

The Chapter has raised over $1.7 million to date during the 2017 walk season, with proceeds from the event going to The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter. As one of The ALS Association's leading chapters, the Greater New York Chapter serves patients and families throughout Long Island, New York City, Westchester County, the Hudson Valley, and Northern & Central New Jersey. The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter plays a major role in promoting the mission to lead the fight to treat and cure ALS through global research and nationwide advocacy while also empowering people with Lou Gehrig's Disease and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support. The ALS Association is the only national nonprofit voluntary health organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS. ALSA is a member of the National Health Council.
