In this Patch feature, "Business Q&A," we ask five questions of a local establishment to help Lynbrook residents get a better feel for their business community.
This week's featured business is . We spoke with Ellen Carolan, the co-assistant manager.
What is SPORTIME?
SPORTIME Lynbrook is a fitness, tennis and multi-sport facility. The facility includes a full-service health club with the latest in cardiovascular and strength training equipment, five hard-court tennis courts, a 7,000-square- foot multi-sport gymnasium, a 6,000-square-foot indoor turf field, group exercise studio and childcare facility.
We offer over 35 group exercise classes per week, including Zumba, yoga and kickboxing. Our on-site massage therapist offers both half-hour and hour massage options. We also have a pro shop on the premises, which offers the latest in tennis apparel and equipment, as well as fitness apparel and accessories.
What are your most popular activities here?
We are probably most known for tennis within the Lynbrook community, since prior to becoming SPORTIME in 1998, this building was Tennis Time, but SPORTIME Lynbrook offers so much more.
We offer private, semi-private and group tennis lessons for children and adults, as well as specialized clinics for advanced players. Other popular programs are our Junior Multi-Sport and Dance programs. Our Junior Multi-Sport program offers an introduction into a variety of sports for ages 2-7 years old, as well as sport-specific programs for ages 4-9. Our dance program is a non- recital class that emphasizes fitness and fun for ages 2-12.
We also offer sport and dance birthday parties for children and adults!
The word "sport" in SPORTIME may give people the impression that you have to be an athlete to get something out of your facility. Do you have activities for non-athletes, people just looking to get a good workout?
Absolutely!
Along with our full-service fitness center, we have certified personal trainers on staff to assist our members in reaching their fitness goals. Our experienced trainers
will encourage you to test your limits and motivate you all while ensuring that you are utilizing proper form and technique for maximum results. We even offer buddy and group training rates for those looking to train with a friend or a group of friends.
A lot of people probably want to get involved with a place like Sportime, but they have very busy schedules. What are your hours during the week and on the
weekend?
SPORTIME Lynbrook is open seven days a week, 365 days a year. Our hours are Monday to Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
We also offer complimentary child care to all of our members. The childcare hours are Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 4-7 p.m.; Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
For the dedicated athlete, are there competitive leagues that one can take part in?
Definitely.
We offer women’s, men’s and co-ed leagues for tennis, both during the day and in the evening. We also offer a men’s basketball league throughout the year. Our basketball league has become so popular that we even have former NBA players currently playing in it.
In addition to our tennis and basketball leagues, we have volleyball leagues and clinics for adults and juniors.
What do you want people to get out of their experience at Sportime?
We want people to realize that SPORTIME Lynbrook is a facility for the entire family. Whether you are looking for something for yourself, your child, or both, we have it here. We have a welcoming and helpful staff that is always willing to find the best activities for anyone who walks in the door.
We have definitely made personal and lasting relationships with many of our members here and that is something that is extremely important to us.
