Lynbrook Resident Targeted in Phone Scam
Scammer called Lynbrook resident and pretended to be grandson who needed $8,000 after drunken car accident.

A Lynbrook resident was victimized by a phone scammer who claimed to be their grandson in need of cash, according to Lynbrook Police.
The unidentified victim received a call at 9 p.m. on Nov. 13 from a person claiming to be their grandson, police said. The caller claimed they had been arrested for drunk driving after getting into a car accident and needed $4,000, cops said.
The victim followed instructions and bought a Green Dot prepaid card and called the scammer back with the card’s code, cops said. The scammer called the victim back and requested another $4,000 in prepaid card numbers, police said.

Lynbrook Police assured residents that any kind of similar call is a scam. Those who receive such calls should call the police or contact family members to confirm any stories before handing over money, cops said.
