A man who as already arrested and charged with robbing three banks was arrested again and charged with robbing two more banks, Nassau County Police said.

Romell Nellis, 40, of Long Beach Road, Hempstead, was arrested on Jan. 8 and charged with robbing a Chase Bank in Valley Stream and a Roslyn Savings Bank in West Hempstead. He was released under New York's bail reform law.

After his release, police say Nellis robbed the same bank in West Hempstead again on Feb. 8. He also cut off the ankle monitoring device he was wearing, police said.

Police say Nellis also robbed the Wells Fargo Bank at 145 Fulton Ave. in Hempstead at 5 p.m. on Feb. 11. He was arrested shortly after that incident.

Nellis is charged with two counts of third-degree robbery. He had an open Nassau County Warrant for two counts of third-degree robbery and two counts of third-degree grand larceny. Police say he is also being charged with an open warrant for a violation of probation for cutting off his ankle monitor.

Nellis is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Before he was released under the bail reform law, Nassau County District Court Judge David McAndrews ignored the law and ordered Nellis held on bail, the New York Post reported. That ruling, however, was quickly overturned by a higher court and Nellis was released without bail.
