The good news is that nowadays people are really starting to educate themselves about the importance of adopting pets from shelters. However not nearly enough people understand the dangers associated with supporting pet stores. Please remember that for every "healthy" animal you buy at a pet store, chances are their parents remain in cages just slightly larger than their bodies, probably for their entire lives, being forced to breed animals over and over again which are then taken from them and sold to pet stores for the public to buy. In addition, our shelters are overrun with beautiful animals who are all waiting for their forever home. By boycotting pet stores, we are putting an end to the horrendous acts taking place at puppy mills, and making a dent on the ever growing homeless animal population.
And to prove my point, please allow me to introduce you to two amazing dogs available at Last Hope Animal Rescue in Wantagh, meet Barb and Rocky!
Barb (pictured) is a new Poodle transfer from Kentucky, anywhere from 1-3 years old. Barb is closer to Toy than Miniature, and would love to go home with someone who will love her forever. For more information on Barb, check her out on the web at http://lasthopeanimalrescue.org/2014/07/barb/
This next handsome fella really needs a lucky break. Rocky was adopted from a shelter years ago, but found himself back after his beloved owner died. Rocky is about 8 years old, loves to be with people and just hang out, but he needs a home without other dogs or cats. If you can be Rocky's forever best friend, please visit him at Last Hope, or check him out at http://lasthopeanimalrescue.org/2014/03/rocky-2/
There's no better way to enjoy this beautiful weekend with a new furry friend, but please remember to adopt- not shop!
