The incredible joy of reading was something I took for granted as a child,
Before the age of five I had a library of hard covered fairy tales as well as an introduction to my “other family” The Bobbsey’s.
While to be totally honest, I never yearned for a twin and certainly never for a brother, I realized the twins had something I desperately wanted.

The Bobbsey family lived on a street lined with trees.
It was the first unpleasant taste of envy I knew.

Despite my Dad reminding me on a daily basis of the beauty found in our amazing NYC.
He emphasized his message with weekly trips to both the Central Park zoo and walks along the piers lining the Hudson River.
Our excursions to the luxury of Central Park were always concluded with several rides on the famed Carousel.
My Father constantly emphasized the importance of striving to reach the gold ring.
As i have often recounted, we traveled all over the city that both he and I loved so well.
Still nightly after finishing another of the Bobbsey stories, I had a secret yearning to live on a street lined with trees.
It was a well hidden secret that I didn’t share with anyone.
That was because I knew there was no longer room on 58th Street to plant even one sapling.
Today, more mornings later than I will share, gazing out a window far from my beloved and now tormented city, I knew God had granted a little girl’s wish
The view from a second floor window in a small town in Northern Michigan is incomparable in its glory
The foliage is beyond description, and the joy it provided today to a very aged woman indescribable..
For a very brief moment of time, I was granted a return to the embrace of a limited moment of life, youth.
I remembered all the beauty God has allowed me to view on a long road of love and life wrapped in a fragile film of loss.
I have been blessed far more than the mythical Bobbsey twins.
Because what I have been given was real embraced with a melange of both love and pain and shared with the most incredible fellow travelers.
And I give thanks.
