Quite recently, I celebrated a birthday and I chose to do it my way.
I did not check my blood pressure on my natal day.
I scrupulously avoided the scale.

I didn’t even peek at my fit band.
Nor did I record the caloric intact of my food.

I purposely neglected to document the sodium, sugar, carbs and fat in any of my birthday feasts.
I refused to listen to the gloom and doom on TV for 24 hours
I did not peek at the NYT, NY Post or the esteemed World Street Journal,
I studiously ignored every notification alert that appeared on my Ipad
My hourly bil·let-doux from both Joe Biden and Donald Trump went side by side into the trash bin
I didn’t give a random thought to Covid, the flu or the possibility of a tornado.
I didn’t check the weather to see if rain, snow or dense fog was predicted.
I temporarily purged sorrow from my consciousness and
I opted not to worry for 24 hours
I chose to shield my day from undue anxiety, and guess what,
I survived.
I know I cannot be so self-indulgent for another 365 days,
but meanwhile
I had such an amazing birthday that I wholeheartedly recommend celebrating yours in the same
unorthodox manner
But only to those not faint of heart because it did take courage.
