Jacobs ladders or shafts of sunlight
Jacobs ladders or shafts of sunlight (ASHLEY COOPER/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY)

I suppose you could compare it to a malaise, thin, yet deceptive and a tinge overwhelming

It arrives softly in the night and you awakene wearier than before you were embraced in the miraculous comfort of sleep

And you wonder why?

Is it the gloom of constant rain that causes the dark film?

Or the illness of a beloved friend?

Perhaps it is due to the lingering and persistent need to wear a mask cutting off the lifeblood of human contact as you struggle to re-emerge into the road of life

Or could it be the subtle yet persistent encouragement to escalate conflict that is now sprouting from many lips, both digital and internet?

Or the graphic videos that cannot and should not be avoided depicting the utter horror escalating on a daily basis in the Ukraine?

Or the grim reality there doesn’t appear to be a Superman on the horizon who can and will save our world from an unpredictable villain.

And you begin to wonder, not only why, but if………

Until your eyes suddenly focus on the calendar and the date,

Precisely at that moment, your thoughts switch to a different scenario

When you remember both Easter and Passover are around the corner of life and

Despite the snowflakes on this gloomy morning a lone forsythia bush encouraged its tiny yellow blossoms to emerge

and once again you are confident

knowing your amazing friend will have the very best of medical care

And you smile remembering

Shirley K’s spring Jewelry sale was a total success and

all proceeds from her generosity became a well deserved “thank you” to a dedicated staff who care so diligently for others.

Then a slender shaft of sunlight pierces the drizzling rain

And the clinging gray fog fades into a gossamer veil because you know

God is in His Kingdom

and all will be well.
