Belesi Hospitalized

County Legislator who serves North Massapequa and Farmingdale areas undergoes tests.

Nassau County Legis. Joseph Belesi was hospitalized over the weekend prior to a critical vote on a . 

Belesi, R-Farmingdale, was undergoing tests, according to Cristina Brennan, a spokeswoman for the Nassau County legislative majority. 

The retired police officer reportedly suffered chest pains, but did not suffer a heart attack.

His illness may be responsible for the postponement of the vote on County Executive Ed Mangano's proposed police prcinct merger. 

Belesi's absence would temporarily halt the 10-9 majority Republicans hold in the Legislature.

"So there is no working majority, and we couldn’t vote on it, as well as some other stuff," Howard Kopel, R-Lawrence, told Patch.

Belesi was elected to the Legislature in 2009 and . He is a Purple Heart recipient, who served in Vietnam and has been married for 43 years. 

He is the father of three and has eight grandchildren.
